Have you ever wanted to explore some of the most unique and lesser-known tropical islands located in the Caribbean? You may have heard of some of the popular tourist destinations in the region, such as Jamaica, the Bahamas, and the Dominican Republic, but did you know there are a plethora of lesser-known islands within the region that offer beautiful beaches, stunning coral reefs, and plenty of activities and excursions for the whole family?

From Saint Pierre & Miquelon to the Turks & Caicos Islands, the Caribbean is full of tropical gems just waiting to be discovered. Let’s take a closer look at some of these hidden gems and uncover what makes them such fantastic destinations.

One of the first tropical islands to explore in the Caribbean is Grand Cayman, located off the coast of Jamaica. Grand Cayman is a British Overseas Territory and home to the world’s only living coral barrier reef and an array of marine life, making it a popular snorkeling and diving destination. The island also features unique attractions such as Stingray City, a shallow sandbar where visitors can interact with friendly stingrays, and the stunning Seven Mile Beach, a picturesque white sand beach lined with palm trees.

Moving over to the United States’ Virgin Islands, St. John is a tropical paradise known for its rolling hills covered in lush rainforest and serene beaches. The island is part of the Virgin Islands National Park, making most of the land untouched by commercial development. Take a hike through the dense jungles and discover St. John’s signature blue water beaches, coral reefs, and hidden coves.

Heading further south to the Dominican Republic, you will find Isla Saona, an uninhabited island off the coast of the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Sea. Although the island is tiny, it is home to amazing beaches, stunning coral reefs, and plenty of bird and sea life. A trip to Isla Saona typically includes a day trip from mainland Dominican Republic via a catamaran, giving visitors the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil waters, go snorkeling, and explore the nature-filled island before heading back to civilization.

Of course, this is only a small sampling of the unique and lesser-known Caribbean islands. There are many other tropical gems just waiting to be explored, from the tiny island of Saba in the Netherlands Antilles to the must-see reefs at San Blas Islands in Panama. Wherever you decide to go, you are sure to find a piece of paradise just waiting to be discovered.
